FAQ

Can't find your question? Shoot us an email at arcadeottawa@gmail.com!

What should I bring?

Am I eligible?

Are you currently in highschool + 18 or under? If yes, you're eligible! If you have any doubts about your eligibility, send a quick email to arcadeottawa@gmail.com!

My parents are worried!

We're here to help calm any doubts! If they have specific questions, they can send an email to arcadeottawa@gmail.com, and make sure to have them check out our parent guide!

What can I make at ARCADE?

You can make game you want, as long as it follows the theme: a probability-based arcade game. Have fun and get creative!

Can I leave the venue?

No; unless your parents contact us saying you must leave, or if there is an unlikely emergency, you will not be able to leave the venue during ARCADE because we won't be able to ensure your safety if you leave.

Hacking? Is that safe?

Don’t worry, we’re not actually hacking into anything restricted. Hacking refers to creative problem-solving, or hacking away at problems. A hackathon is a collaborative event where individuals or teams work on creating a project within a short timeframe. It’s called a hackathon because it’s a marathon for hacking!

I'm new to coding, can I join?

Absolutely! There will be workshops to attend and you can ask peers too. We welcome (and have prizes for) beginners, experienced coders, and everyone in between!

Do I need a team?

working in a team (up to 3 people) is reccomended, especially because you can meet and work with amazing people! However, you can work alone or in a team of 2 if you wish! :D

What has Hack Club done before?

We've ran tons of events around the world! We opened a Gaming Cafe in Shanghai for a week, created a free game console for teens, and we have a network of 1000+ high school coding clubs around the world. Check out our website for more!
